Shortlisted for award at Portsmouth Business Awards

We are pleased to announce that we were shortlisted for the Manufacturing & Engineering Company of the Year Award at the Portsmouth Business Awards, which took place at Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 27th March.

Our sincere congratulations go to Barnbrook Systems, who won the award, as well as the other shortlisted companies - CTS Europe Ltd, Excell Metal Spinning Ltd, Southbourne Rubber, STS Defence, and The Island Tea & Coffee Co - all of whom have achieved great things.

2025 marks 25 years of the Portsmouth Business Awards, which are organised and run by The Portsmouth News. The black-tie event provides the ideal platform to showcase the incredible businesses that are thriving in our community and beyond, despite the challenging business conditions that have taken residence in recent years.

Seventeen awards were handed out on the night, including Apprentice of the Year, Community Business of the Year, Employer of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to Business, and Overall Business of the Year. (See full list here.)

A particularly notable award was the Visitor Attraction/Event of the Year Award, won by The D Day Story, which marked the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings with a series of special events. The museum was commended for its endeavours in reaching out to wider local audiences through pop-up shops and their work with young people.

The News Editor in Chief, Mark Waldron said: “It was a fantastic evening and great to share in the joy of the winners who all thoroughly deserved their honours. The winners who took the stage were the best of the best, but everyone who was nominated was a winner.”

HSM was thrilled to be shortlisted amongst so many great companies, and a team of staff attended the evening, which consisted of a three-course dinner, the award presentations, and the chance to network with local businesses. 

In attendance from HSM were Accounts & HR Manager Jolene Towner, Sales & Marketing Manager Carl Benfield, Planning Engineers  Marcus Defrietas and Geraint Curran, and Estimator Ryan Broadbridge.

Carl said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award; to be selected as one of the top achieving manufacturing and engineering companies in the southern region is a huge honour. Our congratulations go to Barnbrook Systems and the other five companies shortlisted, and our thanks go to our hard-working staff who make achievements like this possible.”

The past 12 months have seen HSM celebrate many successes including the launch of our new website, attendance at many industry events including Lab Innovations and Southern Manufacturing and Electronics, a win at the 2024 MMMA Gala Awards, and investments that have increased our capabilities in-house.
