Sheet Metal Fabrication

Shortlisted for Two Awards at the Portsmouth Business Awards 2026

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Portsmouth Business Awards; Manufacturing & Engineering Company of the Year, and Sustainable Business of the Year.

The Awards will take place at Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 27th February. The evening will kick off at 6.15pm with drinks and networking, followed by a three-course dinner, the awards presentations and further networking.

2026 marks 26 years of the Portsmouth Business Awards, which are organised and run by The Portsmouth News. The black-tie event provides the ideal platform to showcase the incredible businesses that are thriving in our community and beyond, despite the challenging business conditions that have taken residence in recent years.

Twenty awards will be handed out on the night, including Apprentice/Trainee of the Year, Community Business of the Year, Employer of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to Business, and Overall Business of the Year. (See full list here.)

HSM was thrilled to be shortlisted for not one, but two awards, amongst so many great companies. For the Manufacturing Business of the Year Award submission, we had to demonstrate our efficient and innovative approach to manufacturing, including how we’ve adapted to the changing marketplace. Our application documented our:

  • Growth and consistent commercial performance, increased market share and operational effectiveness

  • Approach to training, team and future talent

  • Approach to sustainability and positive impact on the environment.

  • Any investment in R&D and the ROI it has generated

  • Vision for the future

The selection process for the awards involves an impartial panel of industry experts, chosen for their expertise and experience, who volunteer their time to evaluate submissions. The judges review all the entries, scoring each according to the defined criteria for each category, and ensuring a fair and unbiased evaluation.

Judges then interview the shortlisted finalists - either face to face or online - and present their recommendations at a Core Panel Meeting to reach a final decision on the winners.

A number of HSM team members will be attending the event including Managing Director Paul Rabbetts, Accounts & HR Manager Jolene Towner, Sales & Marketing Manager Carl Benfield, Operations Manager Tony Molloy, Planning Engineers Marcus Defrietas and Geraint Curran, and Estimator Ryan Broadbridge.

Carl said: “We’re thrilled to be shortlisted for two awards this year! To be identified as one of the top achieving manufacturing companies in the southern region is fantastic. We’re all looking forward to celebrating on the night, and as always, our thanks go to our entire team who make achievements like this possible.”

The past 12 months have seen HSM celebrate a variety of successes including attendance at many industry events including Lab Innovations and Southern Manufacturing and Electronics, sponsoring Sheet Metal Industries Golf Challenge, supporting Rowans Hospice Christmas Tree fundraiser, and investments that have increased our in-house capabilities.
